Metal gear? - metal gear

Ive never played any Metal Gear games, and I heard the Metal Gear series is awesome, if I get it? If so, where in the series?

He released Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection Metal Gear with 1 2 and 3

1 was probably the best, but 2 very interesting. 3 had the best control, but it's a prequel. if the order 3 1 2 4

I have just started to play Metal Gear 4th If you never played Metal Gear games, the plot of Metal Gear 4, is confusing, because there are many characters from the past to touch the feeling of too. Obviously the graphics are the best in the game Metal Gear, since the last game and is working on the PS3.
I say, Metal Gear 4 and then rent the old Metal Gear for connecting thread of the story.
